Automatic Case Packers & Integrated Erect-Pack-Seal Systems

Select the right secondary packaging architecture for pouches, folding cartons, bottles and rigid containers—from 5 to 30+ cases per minute (CPM)—and verify it on your own corrugated blanks before shipment.

Compare top-load pick-and-place, side-load horizontal, bottom-load, 30 CPM wrap-around, gravity drop and robotic case packers, plus pin-and-dome case erectors, hot-melt/tape sealers and end-of-line palletizers.

Automatic secondary packaging line with case erector, top-load case packer, and tape case sealer for pouches and bags

Stand-up pouches and pillow bags

Flexible bags shift and trap air, so they need bag conditioning and controlled collation before loading. Top-load pick-and-place gantries (LV-P250, up to 20 CPM) and Delta robots load pouches flat or upright (SRP) without crushing seals.

  • Flatten and condition VFFS bags before dual-lane collation
  • Choose vacuum bellows or mechanical clamshell grippers
  • Decide flat stacking vs vertical shelf-ready (SRP) orientation

Six secondary packaging architectures.

Primary package rigidity, display orientation (RSC vs SRP wrap-around) and line speed (CPM) determine the machine family.

Six engineering checks we run on your corrugated blanks and samples.

A nameplate CPM figure only holds for the primary pack and corrugated board it was tested on. These six checks turn a catalog rating into a guaranteed production rate for your line.

01 · CPM vs pick cycles/min

A 2-axis gantry rated for 20 cycles/min packs 20 CPM on a 1-layer case, but 10 CPM on a 2-layer case unless fitted with a dual-case or multi-layer pick head.

02 · VFFS bag conditioning

Pouches leaving an 80–120 BPM bagger trap headspace air; vibratory flattening conveyors equalize bag thickness within ±2.0 mm before collation.

03 · Recycled board & warp

Above 15 CPM or 60% recycled fiber, specify dual-frame opposition vacuum (LV-CE200) or positive pin-and-dome erecting (LV-CE250) to prevent blank drops.

04 · Wrap-around vs RSC cost

Above 1.2M cases/yr, a 30 CPM wrap-around packer (LV-P320) cuts corrugated board area by 15–22% by eliminating the manufacturer joint and flap overlap.

05 · 15-min no-tool changeover

Siko digital leadscrew counters, quick-release pin mandrels and HMI servo recipes let one technician switch box SKUs in 10–15 minutes with zero wrenches.

06 · 60s downstream buffer

Zero-pressure MDR accumulation conveyors isolate the case packer from palletizer pallet-exchange pauses and GS1-128 print-and-apply labeler stops.

Questions before you specify an automatic case packer.

What is the difference between a top-load, side-load, and wrap-around case packer?

A top-load case packer erects a standard RSC box and lowers flexible pouches, tubs or bottles in from above using a vacuum or mechanical gripper (up to 20 CPM). A side-load case packer pushes rigid folding cartons horizontally into the side of an RSC box (15–25 CPM). A wrap-around case packer folds a flat die-cut corrugated blank tightly around the collated product group and glues it shut at up to 30 CPM, saving 15–22% in corrugated board area.

How do I calculate the required case packer speed (CPM) from my upstream packaging line?

Divide your upstream primary speed (units/min) by the pack count per case to get net CPM, divide by expected line OEE (0.75–0.82), and multiply by a 1.20–1.25 surge factor. For example, a 120 bags/min VFFS bagger packing 12 bags per case requires 10 CPM net, which specifies a 15 CPM rated case packer. Always check pick cycles per minute if a case contains multiple layers.

How much does an automatic case packer cost?

Standalone automatic case erectors range from $22,000 to $55,000, side-load and drop case packers range from $65,000 to $135,000, top-load servo pick-and-place and 30 CPM wrap-around case packers range from $95,000 to $185,000, and integrated robotic case packer-palletizer monoblocks range from $145,000 to $260,000+ depending on collation complexity.

How fast can an operator change over an automatic case packer to a new box size?

LINEVO case packers use SMED no-tool changeover hardware: Siko digital position counters on leadscrews, quick-release pin mandrels, and PLC servo recipe storage. A complete SKU changeover takes 10 to 15 minutes with zero hand wrenches, and the first case out is dimensionally square.
